MOTIVATING COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVES TO FIGHT POSTPARTUM HEMORRHAGE IN MAKUENI COUNTY

Activity Description

The EPPH-i project co-lead, Dr Anne Kihara, on December 9, 2025, under the auspices of Okoa
Mama na Mtoto Initiative (OMMI) instigated a massive blood drive to collect blood for PPH
victims in Makueni County. Hundreds of individuals, mainly men, turned up to voluntarily
donate blood. The mobilization was led by Kibwezi Township Chairman George Mwaura and
the hospital’s medical superintendent, Dr Blatus Kakundi. The initiative aims to boost the
availability of blood for women suffering from PPH, the leading cause of maternal deaths
