SECURING GOVERNMENT’S COMMITMENT TO END POSTPARTUM HEMORRHAGE

Activity Description

During the Kenya Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society 50th Annual Scientific Conference, held in Mombasa on 9th-13th February, 2026 the End PPH Initiative helped secure government commitment to reduce postpartum haemorrhage deaths through system strengthening measures. The Director General Dr Patrick Amoth stated that the government is addressing the blood crisis by strengthening the national blood transfusion infrastructure and revamping the regional blood transfusion centre in Garissa to improve emergency access. The government also committed to a rapid response initiative targeting 26 high-burden counties, alongside workforce training, improved commodity supply, referral strengthening, and deployment of the 2026 Basic Obstetric Protocol. Maternal and perinatal death surveillance systems will also be reinforced to improve accountability and clinical response to postpartum haemorrhage.
