Fighting Postpartum Hemorrhage by Increasing Community Awareness Through Collaboration with Faith Based Organizations.

Activity Description

The end PPH Initiative, through the Kenya Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (KOGS), forged collaboration with the religious sector during a KOGS-Religious Sector caucus meeting held at Pan Afric Hotel on 27th March, 2025. The meeting explored effective measures to prevent and manage postpartum hemorrhage, the leading cause of maternal mortality. Participants advocated for wider access to skilled deliveries, emergency response systems, and enhanced education on maternal warning signs. They stressed the need to integrate health education into religious and community settings. Religious leaders, who play a significant role in influencing community perceptions and behaviors, pledged to use their platforms to educate women on reproductive health, hygiene and preventive care, fostering a culture of wellness and informed discussion- making.

Recognizing the critical need for timely blood transfusions, discussions centered on innovative approaches to blood donation, including mobile blood testing and community based donor drives. Faith based institutions expressed willingness to ensure steady supply of blood for maternal emergencies.
