The PPH Project is dedicated to tackling the global issue of postpartum hemorrhage, a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity.
Men have traditionally neglected postpartum hemorrhage, usually dismissed as a “women’s issue.” In a radical paradigm shift, His Excellency Hon Mutula Kilonzo Jr, the Governor of Makueni county decried this as reckless, pledged support and promised to rally male Governors of other counties and more stakeholders to support the End Postpartum Hemorrhage, Run For Her Initiative in all ways possible. The Governor narrated various initiatives he had championed in the county during his tenure, including the use of Heat Stable Cabetocin, and calibrated drapes. Makueni is one of the 13 PPH hot spot counties, but is also among the first counties in Kenya to adopt a comprehensive approach to combating PPH, combining the use of heat stable cabetocin with calibrated drapes. He made the pledge during a consultative meeting with Prof Moses Obimbo and his team from the EPPH Initiative, at his office on 2nd July, 2025.
