THE FIGHT AGAINST POSTPARTUM HEMORRHAGE TAKEN TO THE AFRICAN UNION: MOSES OBIMBO ADRESSES African Union NEPAD Conference

Activity Description

The fight against PPH was recently elevated to the African Union. Prof Obimbo- the End Postpartum Hemorrhage project lead, gave an inspiring presentation tracing his journey from scientific research to bedside care to global advocacy in the battle against maternal mortality due to postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), during the prestigious African Union NEPAD Evidence for Development conference held on June, 2025.

The talk highlighted how translating laboratory research into clinical interventions—and now public engagement—has become a personal and professional mission. By integrating technical expertise into evidence-based advocacy, the Run for Her initiative has become a vehicle for uniting communities, researchers, and governments to act decisively on PPH.

“We need more scientists in the advocacy space. We need every technical hand in the fight. PPH is preventable—and preventable means unacceptable.”

The session sparked productive dialogue among the stakeholders, health ministries, and development partners, who underscored the value of home-grown leadership and locally relevant innovations in maternal health.
