The PPH Project is dedicated to tackling the global issue of postpartum hemorrhage, a leading cause of maternal mortality and morbidity.
The EPPH-i has, as part of its PPH advocacy campaign started highlighting the plight of babies whose mothers die of PPH. This is a neglected area of PPH management, as it is considered to be a mother’s problem. In a media article entitled “Born into grief: The silent crisis of babies orphaned by postpartum hemorrhage in Kenya”, in Citizen Digital on August 6,2025, Dr Anne Kihara, a EPPH-i project co-lead emphasized the plight of those children. “Babies born into the PPH crisis face immense health risks such as hypothermia, hypoglycemia, failure to latch, lack of early protection from infection. Without a mother’s milk, touch and love, the baby’s chance of survival is reduced four times.” Said Dr Anne Kihara.
