INFLUENCING GLOBAL CONVERSATION ON POSTPARTUM HEMORRHAGE

Activity Description

The presentation by Prof Moses Obimbo, the EPPH-i project lead, during the launch of USD 2.5 Billion Fund for Research and Development on Women’s Health has triggered global conversation on PPH. According to Mark Suzman, the CEO of the Gates Foundation: In a recent The Associated Press Piece, Prof Obimbo spoke to the decades-long pattern of underinvesting in solutions for conditions that primarily affect women-like postpartum hemorrhage, heavy menstrual bleeding and endometriosis. Closing the women’s health gap by focusing on innovations built with women’s needs in mind is critical and long overdue. The STAT News event with Bill Gates made  space for a thoughtful conversation about this overlooked but high-impact area of global health.

Mark Suzman has echoed Obimbo’s sentiments that “If men were the victims, a G7 conference would be called to find a solution, but research on the subject has largely been neglected because it claims lives of women.”
