Advocacy & Community Engangement

Advocacy & Community Engangement

Advocacy plays a crucial role in shaping public opinion, influencing policy, and driving changes in practice. By strategically utilizing information and action, advocates can improve laws, policies, and systems affecting the communities they serve. Healthcare providers, in particular, are powerful agents of change, capable of driving significant improvements in health conditions. Historically, organizations like FIGO and its member societies have been involved in advocacy for Postpartum Hemorrhage (PPH). While their efforts have achieved some success, their impact has often been limited. This is partly because these programs tended to focus on isolated aspects of PPH management and were frequently imported, lacking community involvement and evidence-based adaptation.

Public health advocacy is vital in addressing health disparities and improving outcomes for underserved populations, including those affected by PPH. Effective advocacy involves raising awareness about the PPH intervention continuum and highlighting the need for better resources, such as staff, equipment, facilities, and medications. Strategies to promote policy and practice changes can include mass media campaigns, social media initiatives, community partnerships, and public events like walks and runs. The most successful advocacy efforts will be community-centered and context-specific, targeting PPH "hot spots" and ensuring that all stakeholders are engaged and working together
